Animation

This animation was a personal project. It is a stop motion of pencil drawings in a sketchbook made on the way to a first date. It depicts the anxiety and stress most people feel when dating in the modern day. I paired very chaotic sketches with a breakcore beat to overwhelm the audience. This was done to clearly articulate the panic attack of a socially anxious person when dating.

“Lift or Stairs” was initially inspired by a collobrative project to create a comic book. On my own, I then turned the comic book into an animation. It is very personal to me as it depicts the friends I worked with on the comic book and includes some of the inside jokes we shared while working together. This project was one of the first animations where I felt confident enough to support the narrative by creating my own music for the audio. This is now something I do with the majority of my animations.

“Tim" came about through my work on briefs where I started to use slightly more childlike imagery in my character designs. I found that the pairing of this childlike imagery with mental health subject matter created a type of dark humour. Young adult audiences seemed to connect with this as their feedback supported the meaning I was aiming for in this animation. This meaning being that even after doing all that is needed to achieve your goals, there is always a chance you will still feel unfulfilled and in your original, somewhat negative, state of mind.
